Audio and Acoustics

Audio and acoustics have been part of the automotive industry ever since the first car radio was introduced in the 1930s. At the time it was a frivolous addition but has become a critical feature ever since the car has become our home-away-from-home.

We’ve seen traditional home theatre brands enter the car market, providing a familiar brand sound signature to the driver that they’ve become accustomed to in their home. But what is the “right” sound? Is the “right” sound the same in every region? Is there a “right” sound?

These questions are among the topics we try to answer with our audio team. We can acquire objective answers to our questions though the use of acoustical measurement tools or subjective answers by running comparisons with test participants. The key is the merger of the two areas to find the “right” answer. Regional work on this topic is critical, not only because of possible differences in tuning preferences, but also with the region-specific audio sources, such as satellite radio in North America.
