Consumer Electronics Standards

Consumer electronics technology standards are an important part of the modern technology ecosystem. The interoperability that consumer facing standards like USB and Bluetooth® provide create an important framework which enables much more consumer choice than a marketplace filled with closed proprietary systems.

At the system level, standards bodies provide the basic building blocks to create devices quickly and efficiently, without the need for development in core areas. Most importantly, the cost burden to develop standards is spread across many companies, mainly in the consumer electronics segment.

Adopting as many relevant consumer technology standards as fast as possible will be key for the automotive industry as a whole. If we are successful, the automobile will interoperate and contribute to exciting customer use cases of the future. Seamless interoperability and interesting use cases will create industry excitement, more customer choice, and most importantly: consistent ease of use.

Our lab is committed to the research and implementation of new and exciting standards, such as DLNA and Ultra Low Power Bluetooth. The use cases these standards provide will enable the automobile to join the current revolution taking place in the consumer electronics industry.
