Social Networking gives access to a collective database. We are exploring the use of geo-tagged digital information that people can share online. For example, a growing number of photo-sharing websites contain geo-tagged images.
People carry pictures in their wallets, on their mobile phones, and splash them on their computer desktops. Many of these pictures can be associated with a specific location and stored online. We aim to simplify navigation destination entry by allowing the user to select a pictorial representation of a location rather than through text input.
Geo-tagged digital information can be transported to the vehicle wirelessly or via removable storage. We have even created a prototype community website to facilitate the creation, validation, and sharing of these geo-encoded images.
This project was first shown publicly with Audi at the 2007 Los Angeles Motor Show.
